ChartCo is one of the world’s longest-established and largest distributors of nautical charts, navigational data, and products for the maritime landscape. Following rapid growth, the Company was ready to embark on a mission of innovation, introducing an unparallelled spectrum of navigation and compliance solutions to its customers.

However, before the business could begin its journey, it needed a new name that would unify its suite of existing products and merged assets under a single banner. The brand wanted to ensure its name would convey its authority in the maritime industry, while inspiring and engaging a huge global audience. It turned to Fabrik for support.

The brief

Crafting a unified identity with an evocative name.

Faced with the challenge of harmonising a suite of standout products for its niche, ChartCo approached our team for help selecting the perfect new moniker. The name would become the foundation for the Company’s new portal solution, encompassing all of the unique technologies the brand offered in e-navigation and compliance.

Our task was to conceive a name that would highlight the strength, authority, and expertise of the ChartCo brand, while also giving it the space it needed to scale in a digital landscape. We were asked to explore a range of options, keeping the proposition and key values of the brand in mind.

Our work with ChartCo began with strategic conversations with the team’s stakeholders, where we learned about the solutions its new portal would offer, and the core identity of the brand. Using these insights as our compass, we began to explore a range of naming territories and conventions, focusing finally on the idea of “integration”.

Our team presented a selection of evocative naming options to the team, and the title “OneOcean” was quickly adopted as the winning option. The name was so successful, that it later became the official name of the Company, following a merger with Marine Press.

Our collaboration with ChartCo led to the development of a powerful and inspiring name, centred around the concepts of unity and integration. The title successfully highlighted the niche focus of the Company, while also demonstrating scale and ambition. OneOcean quickly captured the hearts and minds of the organisation’s target audience, leading to phenomenal growth.

This name now stands as the primary moniker for the ChartCo business, following the brand’s merger with another major maritime navigation and compliance brand. With its new name, OneOcean has the identity it needs to thrive in a competitive market, and engage a broad range of customers.
