High-profile fundraising campaign encourages participants to shave or style their hair in aid of cancer support.
Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the UK’s largest networks for people affected by cancer. Consisting of millions of supporters, professionals, volunteers and campaigners, the organisation is devoted to providing specialist support, financial advice and much needed information for people living with cancer.
To strengthen its legacy going forward, Macmillan is working hard to change the perception of being “only for old people” and transform the brand into a modern network consisting of people from all over the country – and of all ages – while reenforcing the message that no one is ever alone in the battle against cancer.
Fabrik has created a theme and campaign concept that’s connected people from all over the UK, and from all walks of life. An integrated engagement strategy has driven traffic to a dedicated ‘Shave or Style’ online community, which encourages visitors to take part in their own mini charity campaign by engaging with their personal social network. Upon reaching the set donations goal, participants shave their heads or style their hair as a tribute to someone they know who is affected by cancer.
The approach has resulted in increased support from a younger audience, and has contributed significantly to Macmillan’s overall fundraising goals. The campaign design is also assisting in the drive to modernise the positioning of the Macmillan brand.
