Visually stimulating and inspiring student campaign helps to switch young minds onto science.
AstraZeneca is one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, where innovation is not just about research. The company supports and encourages learning and development opportunities and pursues a wide range of philanthropic activities, including a youth science programme that forms part of the national curriculum. Knowing that today’s teenagers are a notoriously elusive and fickle bunch, AstraZeneca invited Fabrik to plan, design and implement a campaign that would breathe life into this exciting initiative.
Choosing a future career in science is not top of every teenager’s agenda. With this in mind, we started by talking and listening to young people and interviewing other key stakeholders. This led to the development of the ‘Inspiring Science’ campaign theme, storyboards and design concepts. Early creative work was ratified through focus groups and art directed photography. Fabrik developed a classroom learning pack, which was supported by an online course centre where students could download specific course material. We also created a direct mail campaign, aimed specifically at heads of science, with an online ordering system to provide easy monitoring and distribution.
Fabrik’s visually stimulating science campaign is a great example of how print and web can work together. It helped to dispel perceptions about corporate communications, break down barriers and engage young adults in AstraZeneca’s national science programme.
